Discover the wonders of Lake Manyara, Tarangire, the Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Crater on the northern circuit safari in Tanzania.

During your safari in Tanzania, you’ll visit Lake Manyara National Park, renowned for its tree-climbing lions, the picturesque sodium carbonate lake, and its magnificent flamingos.

African Safari Lake Manyara

Lake Manyara is conveniently located 126 km (78 mi) southwest of Arusha, making it easily accessible by car in just an hour and a half. It can also be reached from Babati, the capital of the Manyara Region. For those traveling by air, Lake Manyara Airport is nearby.

Situated to the south, above the park’s escarpment, is the Marang Forest Reserve, spanning over 35,399 hectares. To the east lies the Kwa Kuchinja Wildlife Migration corridor, which allows wildlife to migrate between Tarangire Park to the southeast, Lake Manyara to the west, and the Engaruka Basin to the north. The corridor is home to several villages.

Beyond the lake and outside of village land, you’ll find the expansive 45,000-acre Manyara Ranch, which was previously a livestock ranch. Since 2001, it has been managed by the Tanzania Land Conservation Trust and plays a vital role in facilitating wildlife movement between Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks.

Touring Lake Manyara Park is a part of the Lake Manyara Biosphere Reserve, encompassing the park itself, the surrounding areas, and the Marang Forest Reserve on the adjacent uplands. This entire region is included in the Lake Manyara Important Bird Area.

African Safari Lake Manyara boasts a rich variety of fauna and flora. The park is home to over 670 documented species of angiosperms and ferns. While most are common species, a few rare and endemic species can be found.

The park showcases diverse habitats, including tall evergreen groundwater forests dominated by Trichilia Roka, Broad-Leaved Croton, sycamore (Ficus sycomorus), quinine tree, and forest toad tree. The densest tree populations can be found in gorges, along streams, and in areas where springs emerge. Surrounding the groundwater forest, you’ll encounter dense stands of yellow fever trees (Acacia xanthophloea) and palm trees.

Embark on an African Safari at Lake Manyara and immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of its diverse wildlife and remarkable natural landscapes.
